The majority of tools and tooling found in a typical workshop will be made from steel and iron. Unless protected from the effects of damp and extremes of humidity, corrosion can be a constant problem. Shield Technology have designed a range of products specifically to prevent corrosion of valuable tools and tooling.
MetalGuard Ultra is a high specification thin film coating which leaves a 2 micron clear film which will not yellow with age. It contains both ferrous metal and yellow metal corrosion inhibitors. Supplied as a liquid in either 250ml or 1 litre cans it can be applied by brush, spray or dipping. Unlike the majority of other thin film coatings available on the market, it complies with defence standard 68-10/2 (PX24) and NATO CODE C-634 which is indicative of the quality of the product. Under typical workshop conditions it can be expected to provide protection for up to two years. MetalGuard Ultra does not contain silicone.
ToolGuard VCI is a vapour phase inhibitor for protecting tools and tooling stored in drawers and toolboxes and manufacturers packaging. The VCI chemical is absorbed into a felt pad inside a 35mmm dia. lidded plastic pot. On removal of the lid, the VCI chemical permeates the enclosed volume forming a monomolecular protective layer on every surface; be it steel, iron, wood, plastic etc. Because it is a vapour, it will find its way into every nook and cranny. ToolGuard VCI works at up to 100% RH and is effective for 12 months in a volume of 2 cubic feet. They are ideal for protecting precision measuring equipment, collets, hand tools and machine accessories. Because it does not lower the level of humidity, like silica gel, it will not distort any delicate pieces of a model made from wood - which ‘moves’ with changes in humidity. ToolGuard VCI has found many applications other than those just listed. Museums use them to protect artefacts in display cabinets, the shooting fraternity have used them with great success in gun cabinets, and woodworkers use them for protecting valuable hand tools. ToolGuard VCI is available singly, in packs of three or boxes of ten.

HoneRite Gold is a universal grinding, honing and lapping additive that makes water non-corrosive. It is supplied as a concentrate and is added to water, protecting both the machine and anything in the vicinity that may get splashed. It is highly recommended for use with all makes of powered water stone grinder eg. Tormek, Scheppach, Jet, Delta, Shinko etc. It can also be used with Japanese water stones. HoneRite Gold is available in 250ml tins, which makes a total of 6 litres of honing/grinding fluid.

HoneRite#1 is a dual action ultra low viscosity honing and lapping fluid for use with diamond plate sharpening systems and traditional oil-stones. It has the added benefit of containing powerful corrosion inhibitors so that once a tool has been sharpened, it may be protected by applying some of the fluid. HoneRite #1 can also be used to revive old clogged oil stones by soaking the stone and scrubbing with an old brush to remove debris from the pores of the stone. HoneRite #1 is supplied in a 250ml tin.

GreaseXtra is a grease made from a high quality gelled mineral oil with the addition of corrosion inhibitors. It has a melting point of approx. 200 Deg C. and is particularly difficult to emulsify. Typical applications therefore include the lubrication and protection of live steam models. It has also found favour with the boating fraternity as a lubricant and inhibitor for the wheel bearings of launching trolleys. GreaseXtra does not contain silicone.

ProtecTool wax polish, is the latest corrosion inhibitor to be added to the Shield Technology range, designed specifically for the woodworker but which is rapidly finding new uses by metalworkers and model engineers. ProtecTool wax is a unique blend of soft microcrystalline waxes and corrosion inhibitors that hardens on exposure to air. It is applied with a soft cloth, allowed to dry for a few minutes and then buffed. In addition to protecting tools such as hand planes and saws, and machine tables it reduces friction dramatically. ProtecTool wax is supplied in 200ml pots.

Restore Blade & Bit Cleaner is our latest product . Over the years we have had many requests from professionals and amateurs, for a fast working pitch and resin remover. We have addressed this need and produced a water based, biodegradable product which works fast - very fast! Unlike products which are hydrocarbon based there is no detrimental effect associated with the transfer of the cleaner to the timber being processed. As many will know, there is a move away from solvent based paint systems to more environmentally friendly water based products. The problem is that the presence of any hydrocarbon on the timber will spoil water based paint finishes. For this reason we have gone down the route of producing a water based cleaner. The product is available in 500ml plastic bottles supplied with a separate trigger head spray. It can also be supplied in 25 litre kegs for industrial use (POA to Shieldtechnology.co.uk)
